It gives us great pleasure to announce that we’ve surpassed our initial target of £2,440 for the Help Frank Turner & Joe Strummer Foundation Supply Instruments campaign to buy replacement studio equipment and musical instruments for the recording studio we have set up and supported since 2012.
This is such incredible news, we’re just so delighted!! And want to say a massive thank you to EVERYONE who has contributed financial and social donations since we launched the campaign last week.
We will document Frank’s journey into some of the poorest communities and we hope will lessen their sense of being forgotten by the world and offer the possibility of learning through music.
“I’m honoured and humbled to be heading to Sierra Leone for the first time with the Joe Strummer Foundation. After all the fundraising work that has happened over the last few years, it’ll be fascinating to see where the money is going and who it’s helping. Seeing music cross international and cultural boundaries is one of the most validating things in the world for a musician. I’m excited for my trip.” – Frank Turner
Thanks to you we’ve managed to secure the funds to purchase the equipment and instruments. The official campaign page is still taking donations and remains open until 25th March 2017. Any donations received between now and then will go directly into the running and maintenance of the studio.
Since setting up the WAYout Arts recording studio in Freetown, Sierra Leone the crime rate has dropped and the street youth now have a place they feel safe, a place of their own, a place to create music and express their voice and tell their story.
