On 23rd April we hosted our first fundraising event of 2016 in Hastings, East Sussex called Strummerville On Sea – featuring a screening of Joe Strummer’s Hell W10 film & live music all through the night!
It was a fantastic day with lots going on. All of the speakers, film makers, musicians, crew, locals and TJSF supporters came together to put on a fantastic event down by the seaside and in doing so raised over £600 for Rhythmix who are one of the UK’s leading music charities, delivering music making opportunities for young people across the South East and training to the Music Education sector.
“Thank you so much to The Joe Strummer Foundation for a fantastic Strummerville-on-Sea event at the weekend raising funds for Rhythmix! Thank you to all involved including speakers, performers and crew. Special thanks to Jamie Webb, ElectricPalace Hastings, Nichola Bruce Film, Half Man Half Burger & Albion Hastings.” – Lucy, Rhythmix
Here’s a mixtape of the bands that played on the night:
“We were delighted to be able to play a part in the first Strummerville-on-Sea event, and to help the legacy of Joe Strummer live on. His film ‘Hell W10’ was not at all the embarrassment that Strummer sometimes claimed it was, but instead is a coherent, charming take on the silent film genre, and also an interesting archive footage of the streets of West London from the early 80s. Chris and Gavin’s inexhaustible and impressive encyclopaedic knowledge and memories of Strummer and The Clash were so impressive. The audience at the Electric Palace left inspired and excited for the evening of bands ahead.” – Annie, Electric Palace Cinema
A special thank you to everyone who donated and helped us exceed our original £500 target.
