Following a seemingly never-ending tsunami of stories about venues across the UK coming under threat or closing down, Music Venue Trust today announces a one-off evening of music: FIGHTBACK will take place at The Roundhouse, London on Tuesday 18 October to raise vital funds to create a new service to stop the closures. The event will support the launch of a brand new nationwide service from Music Venue Trust which will directly stop music venue closures by tackling the number 1 cause of those closures; the cost and complexity of legal advice and expert opinion on planning, development, noise and licensing issues.
The Joe Strummer Foundation say: We are firm believers in grassroots music, it’s at this level of the music scene in the UK and around the world is arguably the most exciting – it’s where legends are born! With so many important live music venues facing closure, or all those already gone, the #FIGHTBACK campaign in crucial to the survival of independent, homegrown music. Punk would never have happened if there were no small venues & pubs to play, right? We shudder at the thought of the state of the music industry without the likes of The Clash, Ian Dury (and the Blockheads), Frank Turner, The Specials (Official), Madness, Blur, Oasis, The Beatles, The Who, The Slits. Sex Pistols, KT Tunstall, Billy Bragg, Artic Monkeys, The Carnabys, BELLA FIGURA, Ballin’ Jacks, Bud Sugar or, or… … oh my, oh my…. regardless of taste the list is endless .. but the point remains the same: all successful artists started somewhere, they cut their teeth in grassroots music venues up & down the country. And so of course, without a doubt, we stand united with Music Venue Trust and with all the bands, fans, venues, engineers, bar staff, security, promoters and together we’ll #FIGHTBACK.
