Press Release: #StrummerJam – Rocking Locally, Acting Globally. Fundraising Campaign Now Live!

StrummerJam - The Joe Strummer Foundation

StrummerJam - The Joe Strummer Foundation

Tuesday 24th, May 2016 – London. An ambitious fundraising campaign has been announced by The Joe Strummer Foundation. The event, they are calling StrummerJam – Rocking Locally, Acting Globally, will run the entire month of August 2016 and is open to every country and city in the world.

The objective of StrummerJam is, as Steve Mullen campaign coordinator and digital media manager for the Foundation says: “.. about keeping the spirit and memory of Joe Strummer alive and to mobilise the troops to unite under a single banner and raise funds for their local music non-profits.”

Musicians, venues, promoters and music fans can organise a StrummerJam by registering via the website, every StrummerJam will be visible on an interactive world map, where visitors can see all the events in a world view or zoom right in to street level.

“We wanted to unite local music scenes, connect the dots, put venues, bands and local music non-profits on the map for all to discover and explore.” says Steve Mullen.

What makes this campaign different from a traditional non-profit fundraiser is that the Foundation are encouraging StrummerJam organisers to nominate local music non-profits as beneficiaries of their StrummerJam events.

“Ever since our Foundation was formed, we have been helping projects around the world that create empowerment through music” says, The Joe Strummer Foundation charity coordinator Jamie Webb, “and we’ve always had amazing people in many different countries organise benefit gigs to raise funds for us, and StrummerJam is our way of taking this idea to whole new level.”

All funds collected for each event will be reported by the organisers and added to the StrummerJam Funds Barometer on the StrummerJam website, this is to demonstrate the total results of the collective efforts of all the Organisers – the global target has been set at £15,000 GBP.

To date there are almost 20 StrummerJam’s listed on the official website [www.strummerjam.com] and over 100 organisers have registered their interest to organise an event, with more enquiries coming in by the day, the campaign has got off to a good start.

Joe Strummer was well known for his passion to help others and his Foundation are doing whatever they can to keep the ideals and spirit of Joe alive and well.

Registrations to organise a StrummerJam fundraising event are now open, visit www.strummerjam.com for more information. Donations can be made directly to the campaign via www.strummerjam.com/donate/
