It is well documented that the Bognor Regis and West Sussex areas have high levels of elderly isolation and deprivation.
Making Your Mark has been providing free teaching workshops in a variety of locations since June 2018. For some elderly participants, these activities are the only real contact they have with other(s).
‘Making Your Mark’ project expressed the gratitude of the project team – ‘Making Your Mark is all about inclusivity, getting people involved through music and helping combat social isolation; the support of an organisation such as the Joe Strummer Foundation is invaluable in making the project happen and facilitating greater reach to potentially vulnerable people and turning negatives into positives” – Roger Nash, Chairman, South Downs Folk Festival
The free workshops are structured in a way that participants learn pieces together that are then performed at a ukulele event and big sing at the annual South Downs Folk & Ukulele Festival.
