The Avenues Youth Project has been a leading provider of youth services for 8-19-year-olds in a challenging part of West London since 1979. The charity serves the Mozart Estate and operates across North Kensington, North Westminster and South Kilburn providing free-to-access, enriching and creative after-school and holiday activities.
Their workers deliver a range of activities including radio broadcasting, music recording and guitar classes from their music suites. Our training kitchen, dance studio, art and design lab are all equally popular. The Avenues has 577 active members who are supported to try new activities and broaden their horizons and interests.
“We are extremely grateful to JSF whose grant allowed us to add much-needed computer equipment and software to our music studio, doubling our capacity for young people to create and produce music. This has been the catalyst for us to expand our music sessions and will have a positive impact on hundreds of young people who would otherwise have no access to music facilities.” –
Carol Archibald, Programme Manager, The Avenues Youth Project
The Avenues was established in 1979 in recognition of the lack of facilities targeting young Afro-Caribbean people in the area. Since that time the project has grown from strength to strength and in line with the diversity of our local community, we now attract and welcome a wide range of young people from the many different communities that make up Queen’s Park and Westminster as a whole.
We were invited in to visit this fantastic space just before Christmas and are very happy to have been able to provide the music studio with a Mac Retina 27inch, Logic Pro X software, Novation Midi Controller keyboard and a studio desk.
This will double the capacity, providing twice as many young people with the opportunity to create and produce music across their various programmes.
