Joe Strummer believed music could bring people together like no other medium. His words and music broke down barriers around the world and continue to inspire musicians from different backgrounds and religions to this day.

The Joe Strummer Foundation is not a political organization.

Nothing we support, or fund, is meant to make any statement at the discomfort or detriment to anyone’s beliefs. We only want to keep Joe’s vision alive of bringing people together.

Due to the sensitive situation, and mounting pressure, we have decided to withdraw our support of 4 Bar Collective project in Israel.

We would like to make clear that the project was incorrectly interpreted to be a gig and that it was part of a tour or some form of entertainment/show – this was never the case.

The project is an independently organized & funded global art initiative to record musicians performing 4 Bars of music, which would then to be constructed into a single track.

The only mission of the project is to demonstrate that music, the universal language, can transcend geographical borders & cultures. And this is what we supported, nothing more.

We are sorry it has come to this but friends, we still believe that music can bring positive change – you just got to want it.
