On a cold Hackney evening in Jan a very special event took place. Americana Clash organised by the fine folk of American Music UK was a nod to the period of time in the 70’s where the Clash met Texan rocker Joe Ely, the result was an explosive marriage of punk and Americana.

“Since January 2016, AMA-UK has staged AmericanaFest UK: a 3 day conference, showcase festival and awards ceremony, celebrating the best of the UK’s American talent. We are exceptionally excited in 2020 to be presenting an entirely new kick off event: American Clash, inspired by the story of meeting of musical worlds when Texan country musician Joe Ely encountered The Clash in London in the late 70’s. We are proud to partner with the Joe Strummer Foundation as a charitable organisation that really understands the power of music and community that we at AMA-UK strive to achieve both onstage and in our audiences ” Stevie Freeman, CEO, The Americana Music Association UK
This celebration was equally explosive with music from Frank Turner, Grace Petrie, The Wandering Hearts, Danny Champ, Irish Mythen, Ferris & Sylvester, Elles Bailey, Kyshona, Terra Lightfoot, Lady Nade, Peter Brutnell, Judy Blank and Felix ( Curse of Lono ). Massive shout out to everyone who made this such a fantastic event.
Funds raised on the night were split between the Joe Strummer Foundation and Hackney Winter Night Shelter.
