FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
London, UK 3rd August 2017 – This month will see the 2nd StrummerJam, a global fundraising platform set up by The Joe Strummer Foundation to help celebrate the memory of Joe Strummer.
Throughout the month of August, a series of independently organised fundraising events will be taking place around the world. Part memorial to Joe Strummer, part fundraiser and part platform for grassroots music scenes around the world, StrummerJam has an ambitious plan; to become a month long global Joe Strummer Memorial & fundraising festival.
“We wanted a way to bring the live music community around the world closer together.” Says Steve Mullen, StrummerJam & Joe Strummer Foundation “Joe Strummer had a way of bringing people together, uniting them & giving them a voice. Grassroots music, no matter which country, is the lifeblood of the music industry and we’ve seen that music can change the world of those inspired by it.”
StrummerJam 2017 currently has 18 registered StrummerJam gigs being organised in England, United States, Mexico, Nicaragua, Croatia, Spain & Peru helping to raise funds for Warmi Rock Camp for Girls, Música En Los Barrios, Music & Memory, Petworth Town Youth Band, Rock School Studios, The Joe Strummer Foundation and more still coming in.
For a full list of all the StrummerJam events and interviews with the StrummerJam organisers head over to the world map on http://strummerjam.com/2017-events/
“I feel StrummerJam is an extraordinary way to honor the spirit of a great man and to be able to affect change in this world through music and am proud to be able to be part of it.” – Jeffrey Glover, StrummerJam Organiser, Ohio, US
“We’ll be raising funds for our local arts/performance/school, Casa Tres Mundos, which has a program called Músicia en los Barrios “our aim is to spark underprivileged children’s interest in music and to give them an opportunity to play.” – Rob Keddy, StrummerJam Organiser, Granada, Nicaragua
The uniqueness of StrummerJam is that each event is a fundraiser, and each independent organiser must nominate a music related non-profit as their StrummerJam beneficiary. The total funds raised from each event will be reported to StrummerJam and counted towards the total sum raised, organisers are then required to send the funds to their nominated beneficiaries.
Jamie Webb, charity coordinator for The Joe Strummer Foundation adds “Over the years we’ve connected with amazing Joe Strummer fans around the world who have a genuine drive to get up and do something. Through StrummerJam we want to bring it all together, to join the dots & shine a light on the vibrant grassroots music scenes and to support music projects around the world.”
Joe Strummer was well known for his passion to help others and the Joe Strummer Foundation are doing everything they can to keep the ideals and spirit of Joe alive and well.
