The Joe Strummer Foundation are delighted to be able to announce our support of the Roundhouse OnTrack programme 2016. Through our fundraising campaigns over the past year we are able to allocate £10,000 for OnTrack programme and for that we are truly thankful.
The programme is a 6 week intensive course that works with up to 20 vulnerable and disadvantaged young people each year who are classified as NEET (not in education, employment or training).
WAYout Arts in Sierra Leone
We are very proud to be supporting the wonderful work of WAYout which is charity that works with street youth and disadvantaged young people in Sierra Leone. Strummerville opened a music studio in the new WAYout Hub in Freetown and we shipped over instruments, full back-line and an amazing and talented engineer to help get the studio set up so everyone could start making music.
BAND Bristol Workshops
Earlier this year (2015) we were approached for funding support for two kids’ music workshops in Bristol aimed at introducing music & learning to children between the ages of 5 and 13 years.
We were delighted to have been approached for support and we were able to donate £850 out the main Joe Strummer Foundation fund to go towards the production of these two workshops.
Strummerville Music Room at Tilinanu Orphanage, Malawi
We were honoured to be able to support this wonderful project. As there is no formal musical education in schools our music room opens up door ways that Tilinanu never dreamt of before, as well as benefiting the local community. Local singers and band members within the community have offered their time to teach on a regular basis and put on performances part of helping Tilinanu become self-sustainable.
