The Joe Strummer Foundation is partnering with Hastings Fat Tuesday for 2018 and here’s a Q&A Jamie Webb did with the organisers.
How have you been working with the Fat Tuesday team?
We’ve been chatting to the Fat Tuesday team since summer regarding how the JSF could be involved this year and we were delighted to have been given a venue to curate on Sunday 11th and also have placed three of our championed artists on the Fat Tuesday tour itself.
Can you tell us about the artists you are bringing to the festival?
We are bringing down a real mixed bag this year, grime from Hull, female rappers from SE London, punk-folk singer-songwriter from Southampton, some artists that we work within London all interspersed with some mighty fine local talent.
Have you attended Hastings Fat Tuesday before, and if so what has been your highlight?
I went for the first time last year and I can’t say one thing stands out. Across the five days, there were many highlights which is a testament to the hard work and scheduling of all involved, performers and organisers alike. Special shout out to the Fat Tuesday tour itself which is wild :)
What are you most looking forward to about the 2018 festival?
Obviously looking forward to the JSF artists but equally hoping to find some hidden gems that are as yet unknown to me.
What do you think of the current music scene in Hastings, particularly in terms of young musicians coming through?
It’s a very vibrant and loaded local scene, I hope some of the bands breakthrough. For somewhere so small there is a hell of a lot going on. It would be great to get more young touring bands coming to town too.
